Navisworks Manage plug-in Details

The Autodesk Navisworks Manage plug-in for SMART Board allows Autodesk® Navisworks® Manage to run on your SMART Board® interactive displays. The user interface works with multi-touch movements with your fingers as well as your SMART Board pen.

Key features of the SMART Board Plug-In

  • SMART Board pen tray and touch recognition within Autodesk Navisworks Manage.
  • Direct markup and manipulation of 3D images while working at a SMART Board interactive display.
  • Mapping of the SMART Board pen and eraser tools to the appropriate Navisworks Manage redline markup tools, including both local and remote users.
  • Mapping of multi-touch gestures on the SMART Board to Navisworks 3D navigation tools including pan, zoom and orbit.

Functional Specifications

SMART Board Pen Tool Interactions
The following interactions will be made available for the SMART Board pen tool in context of the Navisworks Manage application.

  1. Auto-selection of Redline freehand tool
    At the point at which a user interacts with the SMART Board hardware using the pen tool the current "redline tool" in the Navisworks Manage application will be automatically set to the Freehand Draw tool.
  2. Redline color selection
    At the point at which a user interacts with the SMART Board hardware using the pen tool the color of that tool will be inspected. The color configured in the Navisworks Manage Redline interface will be automatically changed to match the color of the selected pen tool. The available colors are limited to those available in the standard Navisworks Manage Redline color selection pallet.
  3. Redline annotations
    Detailed pen tool drawing interactions will be captured and passed through to the Navisworks Manage application.

SMART Board Meeting Pro Collaboration
The single point of integration between Navisworks Manage and the SMART Board Meeting Pro application is the transmission of a screenshot of the current Navisworks Manage viewport. A semi-transparent button will be displayed in front of the Navisworks Manage user interface. By clicking this button a digital image will be created and transferred to the Meeting Pro application.

SMART Board Mouse Simulation Gestures
Simulating both left and right mouse button clicks will be supported. Left button clicks will be simulated using a single-finger gesture. Right button clicks will be simulated using a two-finger gesture.

  1. Left Mouse Button Simulation
    Click: A single touch will pass as a Left-Mouse-Button-Click.
    Double-Click: A single finger double-tap touch will pass as a Left-Mouse-Button-Double-Click.
  2. Right Mouse Button Simulation
    Click: A single touch followed by a short period of delay followed by a second finger touch. The location of the first touch will be assumed to be the focal point at which the click is targeted. All of the details captured will be passed as a Right-Mouse-Button-Click.

SMART Board Navigation Gestures
There are three types of Navigation Gestures that will be considered in this project: (1) Zoom (in/out), (2) Pan and (3) Fixed Point Orbit. Each of the requested gestures will rely heavily upon the functionality exposed by the SMART Board multi-touch gesture API.

  1. SmartCAD TouchZoom Gesture
    Zoom-In Gesture: A user will specify a point of interest by centering their two-fingered gesture about the centroid of the point of interest and moving the two fingers towards each other. The detailed gesture information obtained from the SMART Board API will be translated into a camera action within the Navisworks Manage application which will simulate the requested zoom-in.
    Zoom-Out Gesture: A user will specify a point of interest by centering their two-fingered gesture about the centroid of the point of interest and moving the two fingers away each other. The detailed gesture information obtained from the SMART Board API will be translated into a camera action within the Navisworks Manage application which will simulate the requested zoom-out.
  2. Pan Gesture
    A user will specify a point of interest by placing two fingers adjacent to each other. As the two fingers move across the SMART Board surface the detailed gesture information obtained from the SMART Board API will be translated into a camera action within the Navisworks Manage application which will simulate the requested pan.
  3. Fixed Point Orbit Gesture
    A user will specify a point for which the orbit will be centered around (this is the fixed point). Using their second finger the user can orbit in a north/south manner by swiping up/down or an east/west manger by swiping left/right. The detailed gesture information obtained from the SMART Board API will be translated into a camera action within the Navisworks Manage application which will simulate the requested orbit.
